Common IT Support Issues

At Spectra Networks, we love our clients and enjoy interacting with them often. We sense their frustrations when common IT issues become a roadblock to getting the day’s work done in a timely and efficient manner. Therefore, we have put together some common IT Support Issues that clients encounter in the hopes that it will help many of you avoid them in the future.

  • Trouble Logging In – This is a common problem that could be easily solved depending upon the issue. It could be as simple as spelling the password incorrectly or even  capitalizing the wrong letter. Or it could be that the cap locks are on! If you have tried and re-tried the username and password that you set up, the next step would be checking in your password manager (if you have one set up). If you do not have a password manager or a central location for all your usernames and passwords such as 1Password or any of the other programs, you may want to consider it. If all else fails, consider following the directions for an account recovery where you will get a new password and/or username sent to the email associated with the account.

  • Slowed Computer – There is nothing more aggravating that having a computer that is       s-l-o-w. It is like working in quicksand, especially if you are normally an efficient person at your particular job. Here are a few things to help your computer work more efficiently. Start by closing windows or tabs that you are not using. Another trick is to be sure that programs and browsers are not mistakenly left open in the background. From there, consider rebooting your computer every once and awhile. Check for viruses and malware that could be slowing down your computer as well. Ask your IT professional to check that you are using the latest software which can help with speed and security.

  • Printer Won’t Work –  Even in in our day of electronic messages, printers are vitally important to businesses. So, to have a printer problem is a huge deal. Here are a few things to check before you begin to panic. First, check to see if the printer is on. Check for an error message or a warning light on the printer that can help diagnose the problem. In addition, make sure there is paper in the tray(s), check that the ink or toner cartridges aren’t empty, that the USB cable is plugged in or the printer is connected to WiFi.
